Thorvald
Origins
Thorvald claims to hail from the Halls of Jarnheim, a roaring realm of eternal mead, muscle, and mid-size sedans. Whether this is a myth, a metaphor, or simply what he calls the place he used to live is unclear.
He first arrived in Snowdrift Bay during a lightning storm, wearing a wolf-pelt cloak, carrying a battle axe, and dragging behind him an immaculate used Volvo.
When asked what he was doing here, he shouted:
“TO TRADE CHARIOTS OF HONOR FOR GOLD AND GLORY!”
That same day, he founded Valhalla Motors, Snowdrift Bay’s only Viking-run car dealership.
Species & Appearance
Thorvald is a human Viking, towering, broad-shouldered, bearded like a small bear, and perpetually windblown—even indoors. His blonde mane flows with inexplicable volume, and his voice echoes even in silence.
He typically wears a horned helmet (despite protests from historians), thick fur cloaks, fingerless gloves made of unknown leather, and occasionally a polo shirt with the Valhalla Motors logo stitched in gold thread.
He carries a ceremonial axe named Downpayment. It is mostly symbolic. Mostly.
Personality
Thorvald is boisterous, dramatic, passionate, and utterly sincere. He lives every moment as though narrating a saga. His sales pitches are legendary. His laughter is seismic.
He does not understand subtlety, but he respects it in others.
His worldview is rooted in honor, loyalty, horsepower, and the unshakable belief that every person deserves to drive something that makes them feel like a god on the battlefield of errands.
He yells everything. He cries freely. He sings drinking songs at inappropriate times.
Profession
Thorvald runs Valhalla Motors, the only dealership in Snowdrift Bay offering “vehicles worthy of warriors and wanderers alike.”
He specializes in:
Sturdy used sedans (“For the brave with budgets!”)
Off-road SUVs (“TO CONQUER THE WILDERNESS OF PARKING LOTS!”)
Wagons and hatchbacks (“SO THAT YOUR KIN MAY RIDE!”)
Extended warranties (“A SHIELD FOR YOUR JOURNEY!”)
Each sale includes a personalized saga printed on scroll paper and a free Viking horn keychain.
Relationships
Yorn: Thorvald respects Yorn immensely and refers to him as “Brother Snowfist.” They once went snowshoeing together. Thorvald sang the entire time. Yorn didn’t mind.
Elara: She terrifies him, and he loves it. He once attempted to serenade her with a war ballad. She told him to leave. He now sends her respectful poems via scented stationery.
Barnaby Blackbeard: Compatriots of the sea. They once drank all the mead in the tavern in one sitting. Then all the grog. Then all the aperol spritzes.
Sir Reginald: Despite being ideologically different in many ways, they appreciate the warrior spirit that lives within them both. Reginald once brandished his sword in indignation during a moment of confusion when Thorvald tried to sell him a Bronco (Reginald was, of course, expecting an actual horse.)
Spike: Thorvald thinks Spike is “a green jesting godling.” They’ve gotten into multiple shouting matches that turned into arm wrestling tournaments, which turned into brunch.
Notable Lore & Moments
The Sales Bellow:
Once sold three cars by shouting their features from atop a hay bale during a harvest fair. He now believes volume is integral to sales success. The Meadhorn Mishap:
Tried to introduce a ceremonial toast into every sales contract. Got banned from using “wet ink” in legal documents. Still does it when no one’s looking.Town Drinking Contest:
Faced off against Barnaby, Butch McCoy, and Fandango Sparklehoof. Lost dramatically. Ran into the sea screaming “I HAVE BEEN HUMBLED AND AM NOW REBORN.” No one has ever let him forget it.
Quirks and Secrets
Keeps a battle journal of every sale with entries like “A woman of small stature and iron will claimed the Mazda. Worthy.”
Wears cologne that smells like smoked oak and resolve.
Sleeps with an emergency battle horn under his pillow.
Does not fear ghosts, but bows to Oyuki when she passes.
Has a deeply poetic soul and secretly writes love sonnets to moonlight and mufflers.
