Roberta

Origins

Roberta first arrived in Snowdrift Bay by literally rolling into town during the annual Spring Breeze Festival.

One moment the streets were calm—then a soft desert wind picked up, and she tumbled in like a rolling whisper of destiny.

She came to a gentle stop outside Shadowed Pages Book Haven, where Elara opened the door, looked down, and said simply:

“Welcome.”

That night, she rented a room, joined a sound bath circle, and predicted the weather based on how her bristles were “feeling.”

She has been part of the town’s rhythm ever since.

Species & Form

Roberta is a sentient tumbleweed, about the size of a beach ball, made up of intricately woven twigs, blossoms, sagebrush, and fragments of ribbon, quartz, and polished stone. She glides gracefully across flat surfaces and can ascend stairs by briefly achieving mild levitation through “focused breathwork.”

Her voice is soft, melodic, and soothing—like wind chimes speaking. Her laughter sounds like rustling leaves.

Despite her appearance, she’s not fragile. Her thorns are subtle, her roots spiritual.

She claims to have “lived several times across wind currents,” and it’s not clear if she means reincarnation or just very long travels.

Personality

Roberta is mystical, dreamy, and kind—but not naïve. She sees the world through a spiritual lens: a swirling mix of energy, intention, and aura color. She's deeply empathetic, speaks in metaphors, and has a knack for reading the room… even if she’s in a basket.

She believes in signs, symbols, moon cycles, and the idea that everything has a rhythm—even bureaucratic forms.

She avoids conflict (for the most part), gently redirects negative energy, and once diffused a screaming match at Town Hall by softly chanting and diffusing lavender oil.

Profession & Passions

Roberta doesn’t have a job in the traditional sense, but she does a lot:

  • Hosts “Whisper Circles” on full moons where people gather to vent quietly into the mist.

  • Offers aura cleansing with ethically sourced feathers.

  • Is certified in Crystal Grid Alignment and Introductory Sky Listening.

  • Attends nearly every community wellness event, often hovering slightly during guided meditations.

She also writes a weekly column for the Snowdrift Bay Gazette called “Tumble Thoughts,” where she answers reader questions with poetic riddles and quotes from celestial weather patterns.

Relationships

  • Spike (Boyfriend):
The fast-talking cactus and the contemplative tumbleweed shouldn’t work—but they do.
He brings her out of her introspective haze; she grounds his chaotic energy with calm insight.
    He says she’s “his breeze.”
She says he’s “her firecracker moment between moons.”
They do couple’s tarot and argue (lovingly) about incense scents.
She once levitated from joy after he introduced her to disco.

  • The Rake:
Roberta is a bit skeptical of the Rake’s alleged sentience, but she indulges Spike’s belief with patience. She says, “It may not speak, but it certainly listens, and sometimes that’s enough.” She keeps an open aura around it, just in case.

  • Oyuki:
Roberta and Oyuki surprisingly balance each other out. Their conversations are quiet, layered, and frequently conducted in the presence of flickering candles. They bond over the metaphysical, the liminal, and the importance of emotional temperature.

  • Whirly (Ex-Husband):
Yes, that Whirly—the Waving Tube Person. It was a brief but wildly theatrical marriage during her “performative ritual movement phase.”
They’re on civil terms now, but she refers to him as “a cautionary wind.”
He still tries to win her back through interpretive waving. She pretends not to notice.

  • Beatrice: Garden and energy buddies. Roberta believes Beatrice’s compost pile is “emotionally wise.”

  • Philip & Brenda: She finds their energy “tangled like headphone cords left in a drawer with unresolved feelings.” She says this out loud often. They ignore it.

  • Sir Reginald: She’s trying to get him to try yoga. He’s resistant.

Notable Lore & Moments

  • The Moon Vortex Sighting:
Once convinced half the town to stand in a spiral at midnight to “align with the moon’s third thought.” Nothing happened. Except several people reported feeling “inexplicably okay.”

  • The Wind Date:
On one of her first dates with Spike, she rolled onto the beach and let the wind push her in circles while he played ukulele and tried to sing in five languages. She said it was “perfectly chaotic.”

  • The Energy Audit:
Once walked through the Mayor’s office waving a bundle of sage and muttering “cluttered leadership energy.” Mayor Llama cried, then offered her a cabinet position. She declined.

Quirks and Secrets

  • Keeps a dream journal that doubles as a field guide to imaginary birds.

  • Has memorized the emotional significance of every tea in Elara’s shop.

  • Once fasted for a week on moonlight and eucalyptus vapor.

  • Can tell if someone is lying by how they step on dry leaves.

  • Believes she met the wind romantically in a past life. Refers to it as “Gale.”
