Pinatius Maximus
Origins
Pinatius Maximus was originally intended to be a novelty party decoration at a boutique children’s birthday event in a nearby town. He was crafted with exquisite detail, filled with candy, and hung with care.
He came to life the moment someone whispered, “Time to break him open.”
He didn’t run.
He stared them down with gentle defiance.
Then he calmly stepped off the rope, walked outside, and never looked back.
He wandered until he found Snowdrift Bay, where he was eventually adopted by Axel Woodsworth, who grunted once, muttered, “You’re sturdy,” and brought him home.
Species & Appearance
Pinatius Maximus is a living piñata, shaped like a traditional paper-mâché burro. He is about two feet tall, covered in vibrant, layered tissue paper in bold colors—royal purple, electric blue, gold, and deep crimson.
He has:
Big, expressive black eyes
Short, stout legs that somehow carry surprising weight
A tail made of curled ribbon that swishes when he’s pleased
He makes a soft creaking rustle when he moves, like a tissue-paper breeze, and occasionally smells faintly of sugar and citrus.
Personality
Pinatius is joyful, loyal, curious, and full of gentle energy.
He is not loud or wild—despite his party origins, he has the soul of a slow-swaying dancer at the end of the celebration, content to simply be present.
He is:
Fiercely protective of his friends
Capable of surprising bursts of athleticism
Emotionally intuitive in a way that unnerves more analytical residents
He does not speak, but communicates through expressive movement and deep, meaningful nods.
Behavior & Quirks
Loves naps in sunbeams
Will stand between a friend and danger without hesitation
Hates loud noises (understandably)
Occasionally leaves flowers in people’s shoes “for luck”
Enjoys “chewing” on soft fabric for comfort
He cannot cry, but when he’s sad, his colors seem to dull ever so slightly.
Relationships
Axel Woodsworth: Pinatius is Axel’s pride and joy. Despite Axel’s abrasive personality, he treats Pinatius like royalty—grooming his paper fringe, protecting him from aggressive guests, and referring to him as “my little fortress.” They are rarely seen apart when Axel’s not at work.
David (Best Friend): Pinatius and David share a quiet, unspoken bond. They often play together in serene, surreal silence—David squeaking with joy while Pinatius rustles like a gentle breeze. They’ve defended one another from reckless children, confused party guests, and once, a rogue enchanted broom. They are inseparable.
Yorn: Yorn respects Pinatius’s presence and often pets him carefully, one finger at a time. Pinatius appreciates Yorn’s gentleness and brings him small wildflowers.
Beatrice: She once knit him a cozy for winter. It was immediately shredded by accident. She made another. He still wears the patch she sewed into his chest with pride.
Brenda: Pinatius once starred in one of Brenda’s short films titled “The Strength of Silence.” It won a local film award. He accepted with a single dignified nod.
Mayor Llama: Attempted to use Pinatius as a party mascot. Axel nearly decked him. Pinatius trotted off during the mayor’s speech.
Notable Lore & Moments
The Great Birthday Escape:
Saved a group of party guests when a rogue confetti cannon malfunctioned. Shielded a toddler with his body. The kid hugged him. He has never forgotten. The Fringe Catastrophe:
A surprise rainstorm caused part of his tissue to wilt. Axel spent the entire night drying and re-fringing him while muttering “you’re tougher than weather.” Pinatius emerged looking regal and unbothered. The Candy Refusal:
Someone tried to fill him with candy “for nostalgia.” He calmly stomped on the bag and walked away. David squeaked in solidarity.
