Pierre

Origins

When Pierre first arrived in Snowdrift Bay is up for debate. Some say he simply was—a man-shaped silence standing near the bus stop, wearing gloves and an invisible wind.

Others claim he floated in on a tightrope stretched between two fog banks.

The only official record is an unsigned mimeograph (ironically) submitted to the Gazette with the word “Hello.”

Regardless, he was hired on the spot by Mr. Henderson and has worked at the Snowdrift Bay Gazette ever since. No one remembers him interviewing. Just… miming a perfect handshake.

Species & Appearance

Pierre is a human, but also 100% mime. Like, all the time. He has expressive eyes, a gentle face, and a wardrobe consisting entirely of striped shirts, suspenders, and perfectly tailored black trousers.

He always wears white gloves and paint—his lips black, his cheeks pale, his eyebrows arched to dramatic perfection. His expressions can convey entire conversations without a sound.

He is lean, graceful, and unnervingly precise. If you blink, he might be on a ladder that wasn’t there before.

Personality

Pierre is gentle, loyal, emotionally complex, and deeply committed to the art of mime. He never breaks character, never speaks aloud, and somehow still has strong opinions that are widely understood via gesture, posture, and sharply raised eyebrows.

He is whimsical but grounded, romantic in spirit, and often caught doing small, lovely things like miming the opening of imaginary umbrellas over babies or recreating silent bird songs with invisible props.

Though mute, Pierre is not passive. He is passionate, stubborn, and dramatic—just in a way that doesn’t involve actual words.

He once conducted a heated debate about local politics entirely through interpretive dance and won.

Profession

Pierre works as a layout designer and field illustrator for the Snowdrift Bay Gazette. He handles visual storytelling, silent interviews, and illustrated reenactments of events that may or may not have occurred.

His headline contributions include:

  • “Town Council Held Hostage by Invisible Box (Unconfirmed)”

  • “Mime Convinces Pigeon to Reconsider Life Choices”

  • “Gala Coverage: One Man’s Silent Descent Into Too Much Chardonnay”

He often wanders town with an invisible sketchbook, silently documenting happenings in real-time—often leaving dramatic, wordless editorials on Mr. Henderson’s desk.

Relationships

  • Yorn: Pierre respects Yorn deeply and considers him a “stoic collaborator.” Their dynamic is built on mutual stillness and silent understanding. They’ve spent entire lunch breaks saying nothing and felt completely fulfilled.

  • Elara: Pierre considers her ethereal, magnetic, and “a muse,” though he’s never said this aloud. He once performed an entire shadow pantomime to express admiration. She nodded solemnly and gave him a book on 19th-century costume design.

  • Ramses: Pierre finds Ramses’ dry sarcasm oddly soothing. Ramses once challenged Pierre to a staring contest. Pierre won. Ramses insists he let him.

  • Spike: Thinks Pierre is hilarious and tries to make him laugh constantly. Pierre often responds by miming being trapped in a box labeled “Too Much Energy.”

  • Brenda & Philip: Philip finds Pierre “deeply unsettling but artistically brilliant.” Brenda once tried to interview him, got one nod and 36 mimed answers, and turned it into a successful podcast episode titled “Pierre Speaks (But Not Really).”

Notable Lore & Moments

  • The Mime Rebellion:
During a staff meeting gone off the rails, Pierre stood, performed a full courtroom drama by himself, and then mimed slamming a gavel. The meeting ended immediately. No one questioned it.

  • The Silent Affair:
Once pretended to date Brenda for 48 hours to help her avoid questions about Philip. Their fake breakup involved a single silent tear and a mime’d montage of happier times. It was heartbreakingly believable.

  • The Ghost Duel:
Was once challenged by an actual ghost to a performance duel. Pierre out-mimed the ghost’s entire death scene using only a scarf and a stringless violin. The ghost bowed and vanished.

Quirks and Secrets

  • Carries invisible objects he swears are real. People pretend to borrow them out of politeness.

  • Sleeps under a weighted blanket filled with theatrical reviews.

  • Has a favorite invisible dog he walks in Whimsy Park every Thursday. Its name is Claude.

  • Has never spoken, but some say they’ve heard him laugh—softly, like a distant accordion sigh. He denies this vehemently.

  • Keeps a mirror in his room labeled “Stage Partner.”
