Philip

Origins

Philip isn’t sure how he came back.

He remembers being alive, once. He vaguely recalls a name that wasn’t “Philip,” and a life that probably involved bookstores, late-night coffee shops, and frequent arguments about cinematography. But that was a long time ago.

He woke up in a field just outside Snowdrift Bay over a decade ago, fully skeletal, fully conscious, and still wearing a vintage horror movie t-shirt. His first words upon regaining sentience were:

“Did I miss the midnight showing of Nosferatu?”

No one questioned his arrival. The townsfolk of Snowdrift Bay have long since stopped being surprised by things that walk in from the mists.

Since then, Philip’s made a comfortable un-life for himself: movie nights, podcasting, and passionately yelling about underappreciated sound design.

Species & Condition

Philip is a living skeleton, but not in a spooky or monstrous sense. He’s more like a highly opinionated, walking anatomy model with deep feelings and zero body fat.

He doesn’t need to eat or sleep, but he still insists on drinking coffee (“for the experience, Brenda!”). He has no flesh but somehow retains all the emotional baggage of a sentient meat-creature.

His bones click when he’s nervous. His jaw sometimes falls off when he laughs too hard.

He is not undead. He’s reluctantly post-alive.

Physical Description

Philip is a neatly assembled, slightly rickety skeleton. He often wears oversized hoodies, vintage film tees, and fingerless gloves (even though he has no fingers to glove). His skull is expressive, somehow managing a full range of emotional nuance despite being… y’know, a skull.

He has a satchel full of film journals, pens he can’t hold, and at least three flash drives he always forgets to label.

His voice is dry, quick, and full of passionate half-sentences. He talks fast and fidgets constantly—rattling a femur, tapping his jaw, or trying to fold his arms only to remember he doesn’t have skin.

Personality

Philip is enthusiastic, anxious, articulate, and deeply, deeply romantic—but only in theory.

He loves ideas. He loves stories. He loves grand cinematic romance. But in practice, he’s a flailing disaster when it comes to his own feelings, especially regarding his best friend and roommate, Brenda.

Everyone in town knows he’s hopelessly in love with her. Everyone but him and Brenda. And even that’s debatable.

He hides behind sarcasm, encyclopedic film knowledge, and the belief that “now’s just not the right time.”
It is always not the right time.

Profession

Philip works freelance as a film reviewer and podcaster. Alongside Brenda, he co-hosts the increasingly popular local podcast Bay Chats, where they interview townsfolk, discuss film, and debate absurd topics like “Could Frankenstein Be Elected Mayor?”

He also writes for obscure film zines and occasionally gives impromptu lectures on horror cinema at the local community center, which turn into therapy sessions by accident.

Relationships

  • Brenda (Best Friend & Totally-Not-Crush): His roommate, co-host, emotional anchor, and the absolute center of his nervous, bony universe. He once rewrote a movie review four times just to sneak in a compliment about her purple hair. He would leap in front of a moving bus for her—and has, twice, despite being largely immune to injury.

  • Yorn: Respects him deeply. Feels safe in his steadiness. Lots of “big brother-little brother” vibes.

  • Spike: Their conversations are 90% movie quotes and 10% emotional avoidance.

  • Ramses: Argue about plot structure and supernatural ethics. Mutually exhausted by each other, but in a sibling way.

  • Oyuki: Once bonded over Crimson Peak. He thinks she’s “cool as hell.”

  • Jeff: “He once said Blade Runner was boring. I have never forgiven him.”

Notable Lore & Moments

  • The Rib Pop Incident: Once laughed so hard he dislocated a rib. Spike had to snap it back in place using a shoehorn and a YouTube tutorial.

  • The Fog Screening: Hosted an outdoor screening of The Fog during an actual fog bank. Accidentally summoned something. Elara had to banish it with a paperback of Wuthering Heights.

  • Love Confession Near-Miss: Once began to confess something to Brenda, panicked halfway through, and claimed he was talking about a documentary called “Emotion: A Human Mystery.”

Quirks and Secrets

  • Occasionally sleeps in a coffin he insists is “just the right level of ironic.”

  • Has written 17 drafts of a love letter he’ll never send.

  • Collects ticket stubs from movies he saw before he died.

  • Owns a DVD of Titanic he claims he “hates,” but he’s watched it 14 times. Alone.
