Mitchell
Origins
Mitchell has always been in Snowdrift Bay.
For years, he quietly ran the Cobblestone Square Café, brewed perfect coffee, served flawless pastries, and watched as magical beings, sentient objects, and political llamas tore through town with increasingly unhinged energy.
For a long time, people didn’t notice him—at least not as part of “the group.” He was just the guy behind the counter, making espresso and muttering dry commentary under his breath.
Then one day, when it dawned on the “main cast” that they were just a small portion of Snowdrift Bay’s diverse population, Mitchell stepped in, set down a tray of cappuccinos, and said:
“This is your third citywide emergency this week. Do y’all not nap?”
Since then, he’s been part of the core crew. He didn’t change. People just started listening.
Species & Appearance
Mitchell is human, 35 years old, and African American, with well-coiffed hair, and a calm, steady gaze that somehow sees through nonsense like it’s made of glass.
He usually wears clean button-downs rolled at the sleeves, comfortable aprons, and the kind of expression that suggests he’s already predicted how the day will go—and made peace with it.
His voice is low, smooth, and laced with deadpan humor. Everything he says sounds like it could be a punchline—or a proverb. Sometimes both.
Personality
Mitchell is calm, observant, grounded, and dryly hilarious.
He doesn’t raise his voice. He doesn’t panic. He just raises one eyebrow and offers a cup of coffee like it’s a magical solution—which, in Snowdrift Bay, it often is.
He is:
The voice of reason (usually ignored)
The reluctant therapist for people who don’t realize they need therapy
The guy who always knows exactly what’s going on—but won’t say it out loud unless asked twice
Though he presents as above it all, Mitchell has a soft spot for the town’s chaos. He just reserves the right to be salty about it.
Profession
Mitchell owns and operates the Cobblestone Square Café, a cozy, well-loved spot famous for:
Fresh croissants and dangerously good coffee
Jazz playlists and sassy chalkboard menus
Providing a neutral ground where residents can yell, cry, or confess weird secrets without judgment
He keeps a barista notebook labeled “Strange Orders & Stranger People” and has a loyalty program that includes “One Free Drink After a Full Existential Breakdown.”
Relationships
Yorn: Mitchell and Yorn are quietly close. They talk early in the mornings before the town wakes up, sipping coffee and discussing everything from snow patterns to regret. Yorn once said Mitchell’s café feels like “home inside home.”
Elara: She respects him deeply and always orders her coffee “sunset dark.” They have a mutual understanding that silence can be healing. Occasionally trades vampire gossip for espresso beans.
Philip: Philip nervously overshares about movies. Mitchell listens patiently, then offers one cryptic comment that makes Philip rethink his entire argument. He once called Mitchell “a philosopher disguised as a barista.”
Brenda: Brenda calls him “the realest person in town.” Mitchell rolls his eyes at her drama but always has her drink ready before she orders it. She’s secretly written two monologues about him.
Mayor Llama: Mitchell keeps a “Mayor Llama Tab” for damages, refunds, and “the cost of whatever this was.” The mayor adores him. Mitchell sighs a lot.
Beekeeper Jones: Ex-girlfriend. He was… into her beekeeping suit. Like really into it.
