Beatrice
Origins
Beatrice first appeared in Snowdrift Bay on the back of a reclaimed bicycle, towing a wagon full of dirt, tools, and an old bathtub converted into a mobile garden. She didn’t say much—just parked it outside an abandoned community greenhouse and began planting things.
Within a week, flowers bloomed, birds nested, and the once-dead greenhouse was humming with life. No one knew where she came from. But when asked, she simply said:
“I go where the rot can still be useful.”
Species & Appearance
Beatrice is a fully anthropomorphic raccoon, roughly human-sized, with thick, salt-and-pepper fur, a sturdy frame, and expressive eyes that have seen too much and composted most of it.
She wears overalls patched with old embroidery, flannel shirts, and heavy boots caked with dirt and intention. Her claws are always slightly stained from digging, her tail is perfectly striped, and her utility belt includes shears, a trowel, and sometimes a flask of questionable herbal tonic.
Despite the rough edges, she has a warm smile that only comes out when you’re not looking for it.
Personality
Beatrice is pragmatic, protective, and wise…and also sometimes just a little unhinged. She speaks plainly, acts deliberately, and rarely wastes time—unless it’s on someone who needs it.
She is full of earthy aphorisms like:
“If it grows too fast, it probably snaps.”
“You can’t rush healing unless you like regrets with your fertilizer.”
“You can trust someone who likes mushrooms. They understand decay.”
Beatrice has a heart of mulch—layered, dark, and always feeding something new. She believes in doing things with your hands, respecting the cycle of things, and staying kind even when the frost hits early.
Profession
Beatrice is an urban gardener and green-space caretaker for Snowdrift Bay. She manages multiple community gardens, teaches composting classes, and maintains the delicate ecosystem of Whimsy Park’s wilder corners.
She also runs:
Seed exchanges
Lunar planting circles
“Guerilla Gardening Nights” where she and a few trusted friends sneak plants into neglected corners of town
Her greatest pride is the rooftop medicinal garden behind the Snowdrift Bay Gazette, which she tends in total silence.
Relationships
Lindatron 6000:
They are an unlikely but inseparable duo. Lindatron is sleek, sterile, and precise; Beatrice is gritty, wild, and intuitive. Together, they’re a perfect storm of logic and soil. They take care of each other in different languages—data and dirt.Elara:
They share a love of rare herbs and unusual books. Beatrice respects Elara’s quiet strength, and Elara admires Beatrice’s refusal to be intimidated by ghosts, nobles, or opinions.Brenda:
They bond over DIY projects, strange film recommendations, and long walks where neither of them feels like talking. Brenda once helped Beatrice build a moonlight irrigation system. It kind of worked.Oyuki:
Oyuki trusts Beatrice with her emotional weather, and Beatrice trusts Oyuki with her more metaphysical composting practices. They’ve collaborated on grief-themed ice cream once. Everyone hated it.Spike:
He once flirted with her plants. She glared until he apologized to them individually. They get along—carefully.Sir Reginald:
She once helped him plant a ceremonial tree. He declared her “Warden of the Grove.” She hasn’t corrected him.
Notable Lore & Moments
The Midnight Blossom Rescue:
A rare flower bloomed in the cemetery garden during a lunar eclipse. Beatrice stayed with it all night, warding off frost spirits using compost tea and whispered encouragement. The flower still glows faintly when she walks by.The Seed Vault Incident:
Once lost an entire collection of heirloom seeds to an overly curious raccoon family (not relatives). She retrieved them all via negotiation and bribe (mostly peanut butter and soft jazz). The Aphid Uprising:
When aphids threatened her west garden, she called in 400 ladybugs, released them dramatically, and narrated the battle like a nature documentary. Spike filmed the whole thing. It now plays in the community center on loop.
Quirks and Secrets
Keeps a seed packet labeled “Do Not Use—Too Honest.”
Has a hidden mushroom circle behind the town library that she visits when stressed.
Refuses to wear gloves, even in winter. Says the dirt helps her think.
Smells like lavender, loam, and woodsmoke. Always.
